Session 1: Keeping Hands to Ourselves

Welcome everyone! Today we’re starting Session 1 of our Hands to Ourselves lessons. Introduce yourself and review the objective: learning what it means to keep our hands to ourselves and why it matters.

What Does “Hands to Ourselves” Mean?

Explain that “Hands to Ourselves” is a simple rule to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Emphasize that our bodies belong to us and others’ bodies belong to them.

Warm-Up: Showing Respect

Use this warm-up to engage students. Ask each student to share one way they show respect to friends. Record responses on the board.

Examples vs. Non-Examples

Display or describe two images side by side: one showing appropriate behavior (e.g., waving or high-five) and one showing inappropriate behavior (e.g., grabbing). Ask students to identify which is which.

Discussion: Why Is This Important?

Prompt the discussion by writing student answers on the board. Highlight themes of safety, comfort, and respect.

Activity: Personal Space Bubble

Give each student a piece of string. Demonstrate making a circle around yourself. Guide them to move slowly and notice when bubbles touch.

Game: Boundary Ball

Model how to toss the Soft Toss Ball, draw a card, and read the scenario. Encourage students to use a clear voice and respectful tone.

Great Work!

Praise the group for their participation. Preview Session 2’s focus on safe vs. unsafe touches.
