Session 1: R-mazing Paragraphs

Welcome, everyone! Today’s goal is to practice the /r/ sound in paragraph contexts. Briefly introduce the session objectives and run through the agenda so students know what to expect.

Warm-Up & Isolation Drill

Explain tongue placement: sides touching molars, tip raised behind teeth, lips slightly rounded. Model in the mirror/webcam and then have each student mirror you. Provide immediate corrective feedback.

Word-Level Practice

Display the full [R Isolation Word List](#r-isolation-word-list). Ask each student to read 5–6 words aloud, focusing on a clear, voiced /r/. Correct any distortions immediately.

Sentence-Level Practice

Use the [R Practice Sentences](#r-practice-sentences). Call on students to read each sentence. Highlight the /r/ words and model accurate production before each turn.

Paragraph Read-Aloud & Feedback

Share the [Short R-rich Paragraph](#short-r-rich-paragraph) visually or in print. Lead a choral or round-robin read-aloud. Use mirrors/webcams to self-monitor and pause to correct errors. Finish with positive feedback and set a specific /r/ goal for next time.

Session 2 Lesson Plan

Students will refine their /r/ sound in connected speech by reading and self-monitoring a medium‐length, R-rich paragraph, focusing on clarity in challenging phrases.

Building on word and sentence practice, paragraph‐level work fosters carryover to academic reading and speaking; targeted feedback boosts articulation accuracy and confidence.

Session 2: Refining /r/ in Paragraphs

Welcome back! Today our goal is to refine the /r/ sound in connected speech by working through sentences and a medium‐length paragraph. Review the agenda so students know the flow.

Quick Articulation Review

Briefly remind students of tongue placement (sides against molars, tip up) and lip rounding. Model the /r/ sound while students watch themselves in the mirror or webcam. Provide immediate feedback.

Sentence Review Drill

Display two of the [R Practice Sentences](#r-practice-sentences). Read them chorally, then call on individuals. Correct any distortions immediately.

Medium Paragraph Read-Aloud

Share the medium‐length paragraph. Read it chorally once, then select students to read individual sentences. Pause to model and correct any errors.

Targeted Phrase Practice

Highlight these challenging phrases from the paragraph on the whiteboard. Have students repeat each three times, focusing on clarity and accuracy.

Feedback & Goal Setting

Provide positive feedback on improvements and note any remaining challenges. Help each student set a specific /r/ articulation goal for Session 3.

Session 3 Lesson Plan

Students will generate and articulate their own /r/-rich sentences, practicing accurate /r/ production in both written and oral formats.

Personalizing sentence creation engages students in active language use, reinforcing articulation skills and encouraging transfer of accurate /r/ production into their writing and speech.

Session 3: Crafting R-Rich Sentences

Welcome back! Today we’ll create and practice our own /r/-rich sentences. Introduce the objective and walk through the agenda so students know the session flow.

Quick Articulation Warm-Up

Briefly remind students of correct tongue placement (sides against molars, tip up) and lip rounding. Model the /r/ sound in the mirror/webcam and have students mirror you. Provide immediate feedback.

Brainstorm R-Rich Words

Invite students to call out words containing /r/ that they remember or know. List responses on the whiteboard, grouping by initial, medial, and final /r/.

Create R-Rich Sentences

Distribute the [R Sentence Creation Worksheet](#r-sentence-creation-worksheet). Show 2–3 example sentences. Instruct students to write 2–3 original sentences using brainstormed words, focusing on clear /r/ sounds.

Read-Aloud & Self-Monitor

Have students take turns reading their sentences aloud. Encourage use of mirror/webcam for self-monitoring. Provide corrective feedback and invite peer feedback. Optionally revisit a sample from [R Practice Sentences](#r-practice-sentences).

Feedback & Reflection

Provide positive feedback on students’ creations and articulation. Ask each student to reflect on one area of improvement and set a personal /r/ goal for the next session.

Session 4 Lesson Plan

Students will demonstrate mastery of the /r/ sound by reading a longer R-rich paragraph, planning and writing their own R-rich paragraph, and sharing it with peers for feedback.

Culminating in synthesis of reading, writing, and speaking reinforces transfer of accurate /r/ production, builds confidence, and fosters independent articulation skills.

Session 4: Mastering & Creating R-Rich Paragraphs

Welcome to our final session! Today we’ll demonstrate mastery of the /r/ sound by reading a longer paragraph, planning and writing our own, and sharing for feedback. Review the objective and agenda so students know what to expect.

Quick Articulation Warm-Up

Briefly review tongue placement (sides against molars, tip up) and lip rounding for /r/. Model the sound in the mirror/webcam and have students mirror. Provide immediate corrective feedback.

Long Paragraph Read-Aloud

Display the [Long R-rich Paragraph](#long-r-rich-paragraph). Read it chorally once, then call on 2–3 students to read individual sentences. Encourage self-monitoring via mirror/webcam and provide corrective cues as needed.

Plan Original Paragraph

Distribute the [Original Paragraph Planning Worksheet](#original-paragraph-planning-worksheet). Instruct students to brainstorm 4–5 ideas or sentence fragments rich in /r/ and jot them down. Remind them to think about clear articulation as they plan.

Create & Read-Aloud Original Paragraph

Have students write their own 4–5 sentence R-rich paragraph on the worksheet. Invite volunteers to read aloud, using mirror/webcam to self-monitor. Peers and teacher provide positive feedback and note any /r/ sounds needing attention.

Feedback & Reflection

Highlight strong examples of accurate /r/ use in students’ paragraphs. Discuss one area for further improvement (e.g., medial /r/ clarity). Finally, ask each student to set a personal articulation goal for independent practice.
