This video explains what anxiety disorders are, differentiating them from normal stress. It describes three common types of anxiety disorders: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, and Panic Disorder, and discusses how these conditions can impact daily life and relationships.
"Anxiety Disorders" Anxiety disorders occur when someone experiences intense or excessive worries or fears about everyday situations. It's important to note that anxiety is not the same thing as stress. While stress is a normal part of life, anxiety disorders arise when these feelings of anxiety and panic are irrational, persistent, and interfere with daily activities. There are many types of anxiety disorders, but three common types are Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder, and Panic Disorder. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD, is characterized by ongoing and excessive worry that disrupts daily life. Social Anxiety Disorder involves intense and persistent fear and anxiety in social situations, extending far beyond mere shyness. Panic Disorder, on the other hand, describes the sudden onset of severe panic or terror that occurs repeatedly and without warning. These episodes of panic are often referred to as panic attacks. We all experience anxiety at some point. However, for those with anxiety disorders, this intense fear and distress can become overwhelming and uncontrollable, preventing them from carrying out everyday activities. This condition can affect how someone interacts with their loved ones or their ability to accomplish tasks in their school or work life. Anxiety disorders can also significantly impact someone's self-esteem.
