Animation About Autism

This video introduces Dave, a young boy with autism, who shares his experiences and interests. It highlights how he navigates school, his unique ways of coping with anxiety, and his passion for space. The video emphasizes understanding and acceptance of autism as a part of individual identity.

Hi, I'm Dave. I'm just a normal boy, but sometimes I experience the world a little differently. I'm autistic, and the autism is in my brain. I was born this way, and I will always have autism. I have many classmates. Sometimes school is hard, especially when it gets too loud. I don't like loud noises. When I'm anxious, I sometimes make sounds with my hands. That makes me feel better. I think that's perfectly normal; it's just my way of adjusting to the situation. Stephanie is always with me at school. She helps me when I need it. She's great. It can be hard to play with the kids in the schoolyard. Sometimes the kids invite me to join a game. Though I'm not interested in football, I like counting the goals. I have a great memory, and I always know the score. I have many interests. I love the planets and everything that has to do with space. For example, did you know that for every grain of sand on Earth, there are over 10,000 stars in the universe? Sometimes I get so excited talking about the planets that I can't stop. That's when my friend suggests we go do something else. That's okay. I'm just a normal kid. I have a mom, a dad, a sister, and a cat, and I love them. Autism is a part of me and always will be. You just have to get to know me, then you'll understand my autism. No two autistic people are alike. There are all kinds of autism.
