This video guides children through a calming meditation exercise called the 'Butterfly Hug,' designed to help them manage overwhelming emotions. It encourages imagination and deep breathing to promote relaxation and emotional well-being.
Hello there, friend! I'm so happy you're here! How are you feeling right now? It's okay to have big feelings, but they can also feel a little overwhelming, so let's help shrink them down a little bit so you can feel better. Did you know a butterfly hug could help? I know it sounds silly, but it's true. Want to try with me? Go ahead and sit in a comfortable position. Now that you're comfortable, I want you to imagine a beautiful, fluttering butterfly. What color is your butterfly, friend? Is it yellow? Pink? Does it have any fun patterns on its wings, like polka dots or rainbows? Maybe your butterfly has the same colors as your favorite superhero. It can be any color you want it to be. How big is your butterfly, friend? Can it fit in the palm of your hand? Or maybe it's as big as a basketball. Really picture in your mind what your butterfly friend looks like, and watch it gently flutter through the air. Now hold your hands out in front of you, with your palms facing towards you, and cross your hands so they form a butterfly. Imagine this is now the butterfly friend you've been picturing, and place it on your chest, close to your heart, as if it's giving you a soft hug. Let's take three slow, deep breaths while the butterfly gently lays on your chest. Slow, deep breath in through your nose, and gently breathe out through your mouth. Good! Try to breathe in as long as you can, slowly and gently. Slow, deep breath in through your nose, and gently breathe out through your mouth. Great! One more time. Slow, deep breath in through your nose, and gently breathe out through your mouth. Good! Continue to breathe nice and slow. Did you know that your butterfly friend is actually a lizard?
