This video explains the nature of emotions, emphasizing that they are temporary, vary in intensity, and are neither good nor bad. It encourages viewers to separate their emotions from their responses, and to use their emotions as a source of information about their needs and circumstances.
"Understanding Your Emotions" Here are a couple of things to keep in mind about emotions. First, emotions will come and go. No matter how painful or intense an emotion feels, it will eventually pass. Usually, the emotion, even the good ones, may pass within minutes. It's important to welcome and accept all emotions, both good and bad, recognizing that they will come and go. Next, emotions can range from mild to intense. The intensity of the emotion you feel will be different depending on the situation and environment you're in. However, you may recognize patterns that can help you understand what makes you feel a certain way. Third, emotions themselves are not good or bad, but your response to the emotion can be. You are not your emotions. Just because you are feeling something negative does not mean you have to act negatively. Learning to separate your emotions from your response can be difficult, but with practice, understanding your emotions can lead to a sense of overall contentment and strengthen your relationship with yourself and others. Finally, emotions can give us information. Feeling emotions is human and serves a purpose. By identifying your emotions, you may be able to figure out what's making you sad and avoid those things in the future. Becoming in tune with your emotions can also help you realize when you may need to seek help.
