This video is the first in a six-week series called 'Selfies' aimed at improving self-acceptance and boosting self-esteem. It provides three quick exercises to lift your mood and improve your self-perception: doing something you've been putting off, practicing gratitude, and treating yourself like your best friend.
Well, loyal Wellcasters, we have received your carrier pigeons. It was very messy. In the last few months, we've gotten requests for a variety of subjects, from being assertive, to dealing with puberty, to dealing with peer pressure. The list goes on. Then we realized, a lot of these topics fall under one umbrella: self-esteem. It's something that can make your day or ruin your week. Yikes. We think this is an incredibly important topic, one that affects a lot of the issues that are important to us personally. So, we're going to do something that we think is pretty special. This video marks the beginning of a six-week project called "Selfies." Six weeks of videos that will help improve your self-acceptance. Listen, Wellcasters, we do not have all the answers. However, the members of the Wellcast team have each dealt with that cycle of negative thoughts. It can lead to more than just feeling crummy, too. It can seriously hurt your health, happiness, and wellness. To kick off our "Selfies" series, we've got a breezy primer in feeling better about yourself. Here are three quick exercises that you can do on the go to lift your mood and your self-perception in just a few moments. Selfie tip number one: Do something that you've been putting off. Sometimes a major obstacle in good self-esteem is that plaguing voice in the back of your head saying, "I can't believe you still haven't called your mom yet. You're an awful child." Sheesh. So, feed that voice. Do something that you've been putting off for a while. Bite the bullet. You'll feel lighter, less stressed, and better about yourself. Check out this video on defeating procrastination to help you on your way. Selfie tip two: Gratitude. It's actually scientifically proven to make you feel better. Our diehard fans will remember that one of our first episodes ever was on the gratitude experiment and how people who said thank you to somebody were more likely to be happier and healthier. So, give it a try. Go back to that episode now and see if it lifts your mood. Selfie tip three: Treat yourself like your best friend. Would you put your best friend down in a casual conversation? Would you temper all accounts of achievement with a, "but it doesn't really matter?" No. So why would you treat yourself any differently? If someone compliments you, don't play it down. Just say thank you. Be proud of yourself. Brag a little. You're no less deserving of that happiness and good things than anyone else. Alright, Wellcasters. We really, really hope that you stick with us for the next six weeks. We're going to be covering a lot of topics that will help you appreciate the awesome person that you are.
