Welcome students! Today we become Behavior Heroes. Explain that our mission is to notice feelings and make smart choices to stay calm and focused.
Introduce self-regulation in kid-friendly language. Emphasize noticing feelings and choosing calm responses. Invite one volunteer to share what being a hero means.
Common Classroom Triggers
Display the Behavior Trigger Chart. Point out each trigger and ask students to raise hands if they’ve felt that way. Connect triggers to everyday classroom moments.
Identify Your Personal Triggers
Hand out the workbooks. Model how to circle triggers. Walk around to support students who need examples or help writing.
Practice Calm-Down Strategies
Show the Calm-Down Strategy Cards. Choose one and model the strategy. Explain we’ll try three strategies today, each for one minute.
Set the timer for one minute. Guide deep breathing first, then students record feelings. Repeat two more times with different strategies.
Invite students to share their favorite strategy and why. Provide sticky notes and markers. Encourage clear, positive pledges.
Congratulations, Behavior Heroes!
Praise all students for participating. Remind them to use these tools whenever they need to calm down. Encourage ongoing practice.
