Lesson Plan

Body Positivity Plan

In this 30-minute one-on-one session, the child will identify and express feelings after hearing negative food comments, use playful puppets and guided reflection to affirm their body and food choices, and create a self-compassion drawing.

Early experiences shape self-esteem. Addressing negative comments about food choices helps Pre-K learners recognize emotions, build body positivity, and develop healthy self-talk for lifelong resilience.

Body Positivity Bites

Welcome the child. Introduce the session: Today we're going to talk about feelings and how we can be kind to ourselves and our bodies. We'll use puppets, talk about how we feel, draw, and make special affirmations.

How Are You Feeling?

Sit with the child in a calm space. Point to each emotion on the [Feelings Chart](#feelings-chart-material) and ask them to name how they feel today. Encourage them to share why they feel that way.

Puppet Play

Introduce two [Emotion Puppets](#emotion-puppets-material). Show Puppet A making a negative comment about food. Let the child play both roles. Pause to ask how Puppet B feels and what they could say to make Puppet B feel better.

Reflecting on Feelings

Guide the child: “When someone says something unkind, how does that feel?” Validate their response: “I hear that you felt [emotion].” Use the [Feelings Chart](#feelings-chart-material) to point to that emotion. Ask what kind words we can say to ourselves.

Drawing Time!

Give the child paper and crayons. Prompt: “Draw you enjoying a food you love and feeling happy.” Encourage creativity and praise their effort.

Create Your Affirmation

Hand out the [Affirmation Card Template](#affirmation-card-template-material). Help the child select or write simple affirmations. Assist with writing or sticking words. Read the affirmations aloud together.

My Body, My Choices

Offer a tissue or soft cloth if needed. Review key points: feelings, self-kindness, body positivity. Lead the positive chant, encouraging the child to repeat each line.
