Welcome everyone. Introduce yourself and the session “Breaking the Ice.” Explain that over the next 30 minutes we’ll explore practical strategies to help resistant clients open up and navigate co-parenting boundaries.

Session Objectives

Review the objectives out loud and connect them to participants’ clinical work. Emphasize that by the end, they’ll have hands-on practice.

Why This Matters

Explain why resistance and unclear boundaries can stall therapy progress. Emphasize rapport and clarity as foundations for effective work.

Engagement Techniques

Walk through each engagement technique with examples. Invite participants to think of clients they’ve worked with.

Building Rapport

Briefly cover rapport building and normalization. Stress the impact of small relational moves.

Peer Discussion: Barriers & Strategies

Set up the peer discussion. Encourage honesty and practical brainstorming. Circulate to listen in.

Role-Play Practice

Explain triad roles and timing. Remind observers to use the boundary guide when giving feedback.

Debrief & Action Planning
