Active Listening Strategies

Introduce the concept of active listening and how these strategies will help us understand and practice it. Make sure to engage the students with questions like 'What does active listening mean to you?'

1. Eye Contact

Explain the importance of eye contact in showing that you're listening. Use an example or role-play if possible.

2. Nodding

Discuss nodding as a non-verbal cue that signals you are following along. Encourage students to try nodding during a conversation.

3. Summarizing

Explain summarizing the speaker’s points. Ask simple questions asking students to repeat what they remember after a short explanation.

4. Asking Questions

Show the importance of asking questions if something is unclear. Provide examples like 'Can you explain that part again?'

Practice Makes Perfect!

Wrap up the strategies with a quick interactive activity. Ask students to demonstrate one strategy in pairs.
