Welcome students and introduce the detective theme. Explain that today we become Decision Detectives, using clues to make responsible choices. Briefly overview the 45-minute session.
Warm up the class. Ask students to think of a recent choice they made, what happened afterward, then turn and share with a partner.
Meet the Detective Toolkit
Introduce the CASEL framework for responsible decision-making. Explain each step as part of our detective toolkit.
Clue #1: Identify the Problem
Present Clue #1: Identifying problems. Give a real-life scenario, e.g., roommate leaves a mess, describe the problem.
Explain the group activity. Assign roles: recorder, reporter, timekeeper. Show scenario cards.
Clue #2: Explore Options & Consequences
Distribute the Consequence Chart worksheet. Model how to fill in one row.
Group Solutions & Discussion
Invite each group’s reporter to share one option and its chart. Encourage peers to ask questions.
Reveal model answers and rationales. Compare to student charts and highlight strong decision-making.
Prompt students to reflect. Encourage honesty and personal connection to the skill.
Congratulate students. Award them “Decision Detective” badges (stickers or certificates).
