Chill & Chat Lesson Plan

Students will engage in icebreaker activities, reflective sharing, and a guided mindfulness practice to decompress after state testing, build peer connections, and practice emotional regulation.

Post-test stress can impact students’ well-being and engagement. This session helps 7th graders relax, reconnect with classmates, and develop self-awareness strategies to support emotional health and classroom community.

Chill & Chat: Relax & Reconnect

Welcome, everyone! Today we’re taking a break after state testing to relax, reconnect, and build our social skills. Introduce yourself briefly and set a positive, calm tone.

Session Agenda

Quickly review the agenda so students know what to expect. Emphasize time limits to keep things moving.

Objectives

Read each objective aloud and explain why it matters for their wellbeing and classroom community.

Warm-Up: Two Truths and a Lie

Distribute the [Two Truths and a Lie Prompts Sheet](#chill-chat-two-truths). Model one example if needed, then let groups begin.

Main Activity: Reflective Partner Share

Hand out the [Reflection Prompt Cards](#chill-chat-reflection-cards). Remind students to listen actively and give positive feedback.

Cool-Down: Guided Mindfulness Breathing

Have students sit comfortably. Test volume before playing the [Guided Breathing Audio](#chill-chat-guided-breathing). Use a timer to guide the practice.

Closing Reflection

Encourage volunteers to share honestly. Reinforce that these strategies can help anytime they feel stressed.
