Choose with Confidence

Welcome students and introduce today’s focus on responsible decision making. Explain that by the end of this session, they’ll know a 5-step process to make confident choices.

Warm-Up: What Is a Decision?

Prompt students: “What is a decision?” and “Share a decision you made today.” Record answers on the board. Activate their prior knowledge.

The 5-Step Decision-Making Model

Display or refer to the [Decision-Making Process Poster](#decision-making-process-poster). Read through each step aloud before unpacking them in detail.

Steps 1 & 2

Explain Step 1: define exactly what needs a decision. Then Step 2: list all possible options without judging. Use the example of choosing an after-school activity.

Steps 3 & 4

Discuss Step 3: think through the pros and cons of each option. Then Step 4: pick the option that best balances benefits and risks.

Step 5: Reflect

Describe Step 5: after you act, reflect on what went well and what you’d do differently next time. Model with the after-school choice example.

Activity: Apply the Model

Pair students and hand out [Real-Life Scenarios Cards](#real-life-scenarios-cards). Instruct them to apply each of the five steps to their scenario. Circulate and support pairs.

Class Discussion

Invite pairs to share their scenario, the choice they made, and the reasons behind it. Highlight good use of the model and clarify misunderstandings.

Worksheet Application

Distribute the [Choose with Confidence Worksheet](#decision-making-worksheet). Students individually complete one brief scenario using all five steps. Collect when finished.

Cool-Down Reflection

Ask students to write silently: “One thing I learned today” and “One decision I’ll approach differently.” Invite a few volunteers to share.
