Lesson Plan

Color Sequence Plan

Students will strengthen visual-spatial working memory by viewing sequences of colored shapes and accurately reproducing them on a worksheet, progressing from two to six shapes.

Improving visual-spatial working memory through structured practice boosts executive function, aids academic tasks like reading comprehension and math, and supports independent learning.

Shape Order Challenge

Welcome the student and introduce the activity: “Today we’re going to play the Shape Order Challenge to boost your memory. You’ll see colored shapes in a sequence, then you’ll reproduce them on your worksheet.”

How to Play

Explain the steps clearly before beginning. Emphasize focus and encourage the student to look for patterns or groupings.

Sequence: 2 Shapes

Display for about 4–5 seconds. Then hide and prompt the student to copy the sequence.

Sequence: 3 Shapes

Display for about 5–7 seconds. Prompt recall when hidden.

Sequence: 4 Shapes

Display for about 7–8 seconds. Encourage chunking (e.g., first two, then next two shapes).

Sequence: 5 Shapes

Display for about 8–10 seconds. Prompt verbal rehearsal if needed.

Sequence: 6 Shapes

Display for about 10 seconds. Suggest chunking into pairs and a single leftover.

Bonus: 6-Shape Mix

For a final challenge, display longer to boost difficulty. Ask the student to note any strategy used.
