Cool Down Champion Lesson Plan

Students will learn to identify personal anger triggers and apply quick calming techniques. By session end, the student will recognize two triggers and demonstrate at least two coping strategies to manage anger.

Mastering anger management reduces impulsive reactions and supports social and academic success. Equipping students with simple, fast strategies empowers them to maintain emotional control in school and beyond.

Cool Down Champion

Welcome the student to the session. Explain that today they’ll become a Cool Down Champion by learning to spot what makes them angry and practicing quick ways to calm down.

Feeling Check-In

Guide the student through a quick emotional check-in. Encourage honest sharing of their current feelings.

Identify Your Triggers

Explain what triggers are: the things that make us feel angry. Hand the student the worksheet and prompt them to list two triggers.

Practice Calming Techniques

Show the student each calming technique card. Demonstrate deep breathing and counting aloud. Encourage them to try each right away.

Role-Play Application

Read each scenario aloud. Let the student pick a calming strategy and walk through applying it. Encourage reflection in their journal.

Cool-Down and Personal Plan

Wrap up by asking which strategy they liked best and when they’ll use it next. Ensure they understand their personal plan.
