Coping Circle: Finish Strong
Welcome everyone! Introduce yourself and explain that today’s session—"Coping Circle: Finish Strong"—will help students identify stressors and practice strategies to manage them as the school year winds down. Point out the agenda on this slide.
Read each objective aloud. Emphasize that by the end of the session, students will have identified stressors, practiced skills together, and created a personal plan to use those skills.
Explain Why: coping skills help reduce stress, build emotional resilience, and strengthen friendships. Connect this to students’ upcoming tests, projects, or social pressures.
Introduce group norms. Ask a volunteer to read each one. Reinforce that these norms create a safe, respectful environment.
Explain the icebreaker: each student names one current stressor (schoolwork, friendships, etc.). Model by sharing yours first.
Distribute the [Coping Skills Brainstorm Worksheet](#coping-skills-brainstorm-worksheet). Give students 3–4 minutes to list strategies. Then invite volunteers to share and record ideas on the board.
Pair students and hand out [Coping Strategy Scenario Cards](#coping-strategy-scenario-cards). Instruct pairs to pick a card, discuss which skill fits, and role-play for about 2 minutes. Circulate to support and prompt deeper thinking.
Lead a brief debrief: Ask pairs to share what they tried, what worked, and what was challenging. Highlight key takeaways before moving on.
Distribute the [Personal Coping Plan Template](#personal-coping-plan-template). Guide students to choose two strategies from today, specify when and how they’ll use them before year’s end.
Present the reflection questions and allow 1–2 minutes for students to jot thoughts, then invite a few volunteers to share.
Invite each student to share a final takeaway in one sentence. Summarize the top 3 coping skills from today’s brainstorming. Thank everyone for their honesty and participation.
