Welcome students to the “Direction Detectives” lesson. Briefly introduce yourself. Explain that today we’ll learn why following directions matters and practice giving and interpreting clear instructions.

Quickly run through the materials so students know what to expect. Ensure every pair has paper, pencils, the instruction sheet, and later, the exit ticket.

Read aloud the objective. Emphasize key verbs: listen, follow, interpret, give. Ask a volunteer to restate the objective in their own words.

Explain why following directions keeps the classroom safe and efficient. Invite 1–2 quick examples from students of when following directions helped them.

Introduce the warm-up game. Model one round if time allows. Remind students to only move when they hear “Detective says.”

Explain pair roles: Director reads one instruction step at a time; Artist draws exactly what’s described. Remind them to switch roles at the midpoint.

Hand out exit tickets. Encourage honest reflection. Collect tickets to gauge understanding and plan follow-up support.
