Empathy Echoes

Welcome students! Introduce today’s lesson on empathy. Explain that empathy means understanding and sharing the feelings of others. Tell students they’ll reflect on kind moments and create an Empathy Collage.

What Is Empathy?

Define empathy in kid-friendly terms. Ask: “How do you feel when someone is kind to you?” Invite a few volunteers to share quick examples.

Guided Reflection

Explain the reflection activity. Distribute the Empathy Reflection Sheet. Prompt students to write or draw one kind moment they experienced or witnessed and their feelings.

Your Reflection Time

Circulate and offer help reading or writing. Encourage students to be specific (who, what, when). Keep reflection to about 5 minutes.

Create Your Empathy Collage

Introduce the collage materials. Demonstrate cutting images from magazines, arranging, gluing, and adding captions or drawings. Emphasize thinking about feelings and symbols of kindness.

Share & Debrief

Invite volunteers to present their collages. Model a positive comment (“I like how you showed… because…”). Reinforce that noticing kindness makes our class stronger.

Close & Reflect

Wrap up by praising students for sharing and showing empathy. Encourage them to practice empathy every day.
