Lesson Plan

Emotions Explorer Plan

Students will identify and articulate a range of emotions using visual tools and collaborative activities to build self-awareness and empathy.

Color Your Feelings

Welcome students! Today we’re going to explore how colors can help us name and understand our feelings. Point out that just like coloring a picture, we can “color” our emotions to recognize them more easily.

Happy — Yellow

Show the bright yellow background or circle. Ask: “What comes to mind when you see yellow?” Then read the definition and example, and invite one or two students to share a happy moment.

Sad — Blue

Display a blue swatch. Ask: “What do you feel when you see blue?” Then read the text. Invite students to share a time they felt sad and how they coped.

Angry — Red

Show a red shape. Ask: “When might we see red in our lives?” Then introduce the idea of anger. Encourage students to share safe ways to calm down when they’re angry.

Calm — Green

Use a soft green background. Ask: “What images come to mind with green?” Introduce calmness and share a breathing strategy or two.

Excited — Orange

Display an orange accent. Prompt: “When do you feel excited?” Then discuss how excitement can feel in your body and how it differs from anger.

Your Turn!

Invite students to think about their own feelings right now and choose a color that matches. Explain they’ll use this idea in our Mood Meter later.
