Feeling Superheroes Lesson Plan

Students will identify common emotions and practice three "superhero" coping skills—Power Breath, Hero Pose, and Power Counting—to self-regulate feelings and make positive behavior choices.

Teaching emotional regulation early empowers students to manage big feelings, reduces disruptions, and builds a supportive classroom culture by giving them concrete tools to feel in control.

Feeling Superheroes

Welcome, superheroes! Today we’ll learn how to notice our feelings and use special superhero skills to calm down and make good choices. Get ready to power up!

Superhero Check-In

Gather students in a circle on the carpet. Hold up the Emotion Posters and ask each child to point and name how they feel today.

Power Breath

Introduce Power Breath by putting on a Hero Breath Cape. Model breathing in for 3 and out for 3. Guide students through three practice breaths.

Hero Pose

Model the Hero Pose—hands on hips, chest out, standing tall. Count silently while holding the pose. Encourage students to try.

Power Counting

Show the Power Counting Gloves or use fingers. Demonstrate counting to five slowly. Have students practice with you.

Superhero Training Stations

Explain the three stations and assign groups. Use a timer to rotate every 3 minutes. Circulate to support and praise.

Draw Your Superpower

Hand out the reflection comic. Encourage students to draw and dictate why their chosen skill helps them feel calm.

Hero Send-Off

Invite 2–3 students to share their comic drawings. Congratulate everyone and remind them they can use their superhero skills anytime.
