Feelings First

Welcome everyone! Today we’ll practice using “I feel” statements to express our emotions clearly. Briefly introduce yourself and share the objective: identifying feelings and providing reasons using “I feel” statements.

Today’s Agenda

Highlight the flow of the session so students know what to expect and stay focused.

Warm-Up Discussion

Gather students in a circle. Write “How do you feel today?” on chart paper. Encourage each student to share one word describing their feeling. Acknowledge each student’s response and validate their emotion.

Emotion Card Activity

Distribute one [Emotion Emoji Card](#emotion-emoji-cards) per student. Ask them to think of a time they experienced that emotion. Go around the circle: each student names the emotion and gives a one-sentence context.

Modeling “I Feel” Statements

Display an emotion (e.g., “Happy”). Model two “I feel” statements: one simple and one with context. Highlight the parts: “I feel” + emotion + reason. Ask students to suggest other contexts for the same emotion.

Worksheet Practice

Hand out the [I Feel Statements Worksheet](#i-feel-statements-worksheet). Guide students to read each scenario and complete the prompts. Circulate to support emotion vocabulary and statement structure. Encourage creative reasons.

Share & Reflect

Invite two volunteers to share one completed “I feel” statement. Praise clear expression and suggest ways to add context if needed. Reinforce the value of using these statements to communicate feelings.

Thank You!

Thank the students for their participation. Encourage them to use “I feel” statements in daily life with friends, family, and teachers.
