Fueling Your Workout: The Macros

Introduce students to macronutrients. Explain how carbs break down into glucose for immediate energy, proteins help build and repair muscles, and fats provide longer-lasting fuel. Use simple examples like bread vs. steak vs. nuts.

Fuel Food Examples

Show pictures if possible. Ask: Which foods would you eat before sprinting? Which before a long bike ride? Encourage students to identify the macros in each example.

Fuel-Up Tips Before Exercise

Highlight the timing: too soon and you might feel hungry; too late and your food won’t digest in time. Remind them to drink water. Relate tips to real school sports or PE.
