Fresh & Polite Lesson Plan

By the end of this 30-minute lesson, 8th graders will identify and practice key personal hygiene habits and social manners, and commit to one actionable self-care and one etiquette improvement.

Good hygiene and polite behavior promote health, confidence, and positive relationships. Teaching these skills helps students feel respected, build self-esteem, and foster a respectful classroom culture.

Welcome students and introduce the lesson. Say: “Today we’ll learn how good hygiene and polite behavior help us feel confident and respected.”

Why Hygiene & Manners Matter

Ask students: “Why do hygiene and manners matter?” Invite a few responses. Emphasize health, confidence, and relationships.

Daily Hygiene Routines

Review each routine. Call on volunteers to share a personal tip.

Proper Handwashing

Demonstrate each step while students follow along. Use a timer for 20-second scrub.

Manners Basics

Define each point and ask for examples from students’ daily life.

Role-Play Activity

Explain role-play expectations. Distribute scenario cards. Circulate to support and prompt polite language.

Reflection & Action Plan

Hand out the Personal Hygiene Checklist Handout. Guide students to pick and write.

Exit Ticket: Fresh & Polite Reflection

Distribute exit tickets. Allow 4 minutes. Collect as students leave.
