Friendship Detectives Lesson Plan

Students will learn qualities of a good friend by watching a video, discussing examples, and practicing friendly behaviors through a detective-themed activity.

Building empathy and cooperation at an early age helps Kindergarteners form positive relationships, reduces conflict, and fosters a supportive classroom culture.

Friendship Detectives

Greet students as they arrive. Explain that today they are Friendship Detectives, exploring friendly actions around them. Emphasize the detective tools: badge, eyes, ears, heart.

Play the Friendship Video. Encourage students to raise their hands when they spot someone being a good friend.

What Makes a Good Friend?

On chart paper, record student responses. Prompt with: “How did the characters show they cared?” and “Why is that important in our class?”

Detective Drawing Activity

Distribute badges and scenarios cards. Circulate, ask questions like “How would you show kindness?” to support students.

Share & Reflect

Invite 2–3 students to share. Reinforce key friendship qualities from the chart. Close by reminding detectives to spot friendly actions in class.
