Friendship Formula

Welcome everyone! Today we’ll explore how to make and sustain friendships through discussion and reflection. Our agenda: define friendship, examine key elements, practice sharing, reflect, and plan next steps.

Lesson Objectives

Read through each objective and emphasize how these skills support well-being and belonging. Ask if any student has questions before we begin.

Why Friendships Matter

Highlight each bullet and invite students to give examples from their own experiences. Emphasize the importance of friendships for emotional support and growth.

Warm-Up: Defining Friendship

Give students 2 minutes to write silently. Then call on volunteers to share definitions and qualities. Record key ideas on the whiteboard.

Friendship Elements Exploration

Distribute the [Friendship Elements Worksheet](#friendship-elements-worksheet). Explain the three sections and set a 10-minute timer. Circulate to prompt deeper thinking, e.g., handling conflict.

Pair Share Activity

Organize students into pairs. Set a 7-minute timer. Remind them to listen actively and provide one new strategy alongside positive feedback.

Reflection Prompt

Hand out the [Friendship Reflection Prompt Cards](#friendship-reflection-prompt-cards). Give students 5 minutes to write specific action steps. Collect responses as exit tickets.

Closing & Next Steps

Invite 2–3 volunteers to share their action steps. Praise thoughtful plans, remind everyone to practice daily, and collect any remaining exit tickets.
