Fuel Fix: Understanding Energy

Welcome the student and set a positive tone. Say: “Today we’ll explore how the foods you eat and the activities you do affect your energy. Then we’ll use this info to build your personal energy plan!”

Macronutrients at a Glance

Introduce the three macronutrients. Explain: “Carbs give quick fuel, proteins help your body repair and grow, and fats store long-term energy.” Show examples.

Macros in Your Meals

Ask the student about favorite meals. Highlight how swapping or adding a macro can change energy level. Example: “Adding an apple with peanut butter gives carbs + healthy fats.”

How Activity Affects Energy

Explain how the body uses energy during activity. Ask student to recall a time they felt sluggish vs. energized after exercise.

Your Energy Map

Guide the student to map out their own day. Say: “Let’s draw your meals and activities from yesterday. Notice when you felt most and least energetic.”

Next Step: Set Your Energy Goals

Transition to goal-setting: “Based on your map, pick 2–3 simple changes to boost energy. We’ll record these on your Energy Goal Rubric.”
