Impulse Impact Lesson Plan

Student will reflect on how impulsive behaviors shape peers’ perceptions, practice responding thoughtfully through role-play, and create a personalized action plan to pause before acting.

Impulse control impacts friendships and classroom climate. This lesson builds self-awareness, empathy, and practical strategies to help students consider others’ perspectives and improve social interactions.

Impulse Impact

Welcome the student and set a positive tone. Explain that today’s focus is understanding how quick, impulsive actions can change how others see us and affect our relationships. Emphasize that this is a safe space to explore and practice.

Reflect on Your Impulse

Distribute the Impulse Reflection Worksheet (#impulse-reflection-worksheet). Give the student 2–3 minutes to write. Prompt gently if they get stuck.

See It Their Way

Review the student’s responses together. Ask follow-up questions to deepen their perspective-taking. Encourage them to imagine the peer’s viewpoint.

Role-Play Practice

Have the student draw one card from the Impulse Role-Play Scenario Cards (#impulse-roleplay-scenarios). Guide them through both impulsive and thoughtful responses. Debrief which felt better and why.

Plan Your Pause

Provide the Impulse Action Plan Template (#impulse-action-plan-template). Help the student choose a personal cue and a self-talk phrase. Encourage them to set a goal for today.
