Lesson Plan

Kindness in Action

Students will define kindness, reflect on its impact, and design two actionable kindness initiatives for their school, pledging one to carry out this week.

Cultivating empathy and kindness promotes a positive classroom culture, boosts student well-being, and encourages a supportive school community.

Kindness in Action

Welcome students! Today we're exploring kindness and discovering how small actions can make a big difference. Introduce yourself and explain the 15-minute agenda: quote reflection, defining kindness, brainstorming actions, and making a pledge.

Warm-Up: Quote Reflection

Read the quote aloud. Give students 30 seconds to think silently, then invite 2–3 volunteers to share what it means to them.

Define Kindness

Explain that we’ll build a definition together. Distribute sticky notes. Students write one word or phrase describing kindness, then place their note on the poster.

Brainstorm Kindness Actions

Explain the brainstorming activity. Pair students up, hand out the worksheet, and circulate to support. Encourage details: who, what, when.

Examples of Kindness in Action

Share 2–3 examples to spark ideas. Emphasize that kindness can be simple everyday acts.

Exit Ticket: Kindness Pledge

Hand out the Kindness Pledge exit tickets. Students write one action they pledge to do this week and why. Collect as they leave.

Let’s Spread Kindness!

Wrap up by thanking students and encouraging them to follow through on their pledges. Remind them you’ll check back next week.
