One Knock, Please

Greet students with excitement. Introduce the lesson: “Today we’ll learn our special classroom rule: one knock before coming in!”

Today’s Steps

Briefly preview each part of the lesson so students know what to expect.

One Knock Habit

Display the poster. Read aloud: “One knock, wait, enter.” Point to each word as you say it.

Greeting & Modeling

Use the Hand Puppet Helper to demonstrate. Pause after the knock and say, “Now we wait… then we enter.”

Guided Practice

Help students pair up and guide them through knocking once and saying “1.” Encourage roles swapping so everyone practices twice.

Play the audio. Lead clapping once on “knock” and swaying on “enter.” Repeat two full times.

Independent Practice

Invite each child to come to the real door. Hand them a counting card. Cue only if needed and offer praise.

Knock! Game

Explain the game rules clearly and call out numbers quickly. Celebrate students who stick to one knock.

Wrap-Up & Review

Ask: “How many knocks do we do?” Have students shout “ONE!” Point to the poster and remind them to practice all day.
