Little Seeds Grow

Welcome the students warmly. Introduce the lesson title and show an image of a seedling. Say: “Today we’re going to learn about perseverance—how we can keep trying even when things are hard.”

What Is Perseverance?

Say: “Perseverance means not giving up. Can anyone tell me about a time they kept trying at something?” Encourage 2–3 responses.

Story Time: The Little Engine That Could

Introduce the story. Explain that you will pause to ask predictions and highlight “I think I can.”

Challenges and Keep Trying

Draw a two-column chart on a big paper: Challenges / Keep Trying. Guide students to call out examples and strategies. Record their ideas.

Plant Your Perseverance Seed

Demonstrate each planting step. Walk around to support students as they scoop soil, plant, and water.

Perseverance Seed Worksheet

Hand out the worksheet. Encourage students to draw a time they kept trying and to dictate or write how they felt.

Share Your Seed Stories

Invite 2–3 students to share their drawings and stories. Affirm each child’s effort and refer back to the chart strategies.

Keep Growing!

Congratulate the class on their hard work. Encourage them to look at their seeds daily and remember perseverance.
