Greet the student warmly. Introduce yourself and explain that today’s goal is to explore tools for recognizing and managing strong emotions.

Session Objectives

Review these objectives aloud and ensure the student understands each outcome.

Feelings Thermometer

Explain how the Feelings Thermometer works. Encourage the student to notice where their current feelings fall on this scale.

Emotion Identification

Distribute the worksheet. Prompt the student to name 3–5 recent emotions and identify what triggered each one.

Calming Breathing Technique

Walk through each step of the breathing exercise. Model it first, then time the student as they lead.

Action Plan & Reflection

Provide the journal template. Encourage the student to be specific about their strategies and to write a motivating reminder statement.
