Slide Deck

Mindful Breathing for Stress Relief

Welcome students and introduce the session. Explain that today we’ll learn a simple tool—mindful breathing—to help manage stress and boost focus.

Learning Objectives

Read aloud each objective and explain why it matters. Invite students to think about times they might use these skills.

What Is Stress?

Discuss common stress triggers in middle school (tests, friendships, activities). Ask: “What does stress feel like in your body?”

What Is Mindfulness?

Explain that mindfulness means paying attention on purpose, without judgment. Highlight how it can calm the mind.

Benefits of Mindful Breathing

Share examples of benefits. Ask: “How might fewer worries help you in school or at home?”

The Breathing Exercise

Introduce the core exercise. Explain that breathing is something we do all day—this practice simply brings attention to it.

Step-by-Step Guide

Walk students through each step slowly. Model the counting and hand placement.

Guided Practice

Lead the class in a 5-minute guided practice. Use a calm, even tone. Remind them to refocus gently if the mind wanders.

Reflection Prompts

Distribute reflection sheets or prompt students to write in journals. Circulate and support as needed.

Bringing It Into Your Day

Discuss real-life integration ideas. Encourage students to set a simple daily goal.

Closing & Homework

Summarize key points. Assign homework: practice daily and journal three times. Thank students and invite questions.
