Mindful Mixer Icebreaker

Welcome everyone! Today we’re playing the Mindful Mixer icebreaker. We’ll learn healthy ways to manage feelings and get to know each other. Let’s jump in!

Objectives

Read each objective aloud. Emphasize that coping skills help us handle stress and emotions. Invite a quick thumbs-up if they’re excited to try them!

Materials & Setup

Point to each item. Remind students you’ll need all materials ready before starting.

Introduction

Gather students in a circle. Ask, “What is a coping skill?” Provide 2–3 examples (e.g., deep breathing, talking it out). Show the card deck and explain how cards guide the activity.

Coping-Skill Mixer

Explain each step clearly. Start the music and ring the bell every minute. Model a partner share if needed.

Examples of Coping Skills

Highlight each example. Ask: “Who’s tried deep breathing?” “When might taking a walk help?” Encourage quick student examples.

Reflection & Closure

Invite volunteers to share one new coping skill they learned and when they'd use it. Lead 3 slow deep breaths together to close.
