Lesson Plan

Mindfulness Mini-Plan

By the end of this 25-minute session, students will be able to use a simple grounding technique (5-4-3-2-1 game), practice a focused breathing exercise, participate in a silent sound circle, and reflect mindfully to manage anxiety and boost attention.

Regular, structured mindfulness practices help 4th-graders build emotional resilience, reduce stress, and improve self-regulation, equipping them to face academic and social challenges.

Slide Deck

Moments of Mindfulness

Welcome students and set the tone for a calm, focused practice. Invite them to settle into a comfortable seated position.

Breathing Ball

Explain how the belly acts like a balloon. Lead the group: inhale as the balloon inflates, exhale as it deflates. Model slowly.

Square Breath

Introduce the square shape with your finger or an imaginary square. Guide timing with a gentle count.

Rainbow Breath

Encourage vivid color imagery. Lead the group through each rainbow color, inhaling and exhaling with a color name.

Grounding with Senses

Tie in the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding game. Guide one quick round as a group.

Silent Sound Circle

Explain the silent sound circle. Invite students to close eyes and pass a soft sound (bell, snap) around the group.

Reflection

Hand out reflection pages. Give clear prompts and circulate to support drawing or writing.

Closing & Reminder

Congratulate the group and remind them these tools are always available. Transition back to class smoothly.
