Mindfulness Session Guide

In this 30-minute small-group session, 5th graders will practice breathing, sensory awareness, and reflection exercises to enhance focus and manage anxiety.

Teaching quick mindfulness strategies empowers students with self-regulation tools, reduces stress, and improves classroom engagement and emotional well-being.

Mindful Moments

Welcome students to our Mindful Moments session. Introduce the series and explain that they will learn quick mindfulness tools to help them focus and feel calm.

Today's Objectives

Read aloud each objective so students know what to expect. Emphasize participation and curiosity.

Session Agenda

Walk through the agenda so students understand the flow and time allocation.

Welcome & Check-In

Invite students to sit in a circle. Use thumbs up/down or emotion cards to share feelings. Display a feelings chart on the screen.

5-2-5 Breathing

Explain the 5-2-5 breathing pattern. Model each step slowly and encourage students to watch your hands.

Introduce the video demonstration. Ask students to follow along quietly.

Sensory Scavenger Hunt

Distribute scavenger hunt sheets. Explain they will look for items matching each sense within the room.

Pair & Share

Pair students up. Have them share which items they found and how those items made them feel.

Group Reflection

Gather back as a group. Use the prompts to guide a brief whole-group discussion.

Today’s Mindful Reflection

Hand out journals. Encourage students to write or draw one strategy they enjoyed and how it made them feel.

Thank students for their participation. Remind them to practice these strategies throughout the week and preview the next session.
