Mindful Movement Plan

Guide K–2 students through three 10-minute mindfulness movement stations—yoga, breathing exercises, and mindful walking—to build self-awareness, focus, and emotional regulation.

Young learners develop concentration, self-control, and relaxation skills through movement-based mindfulness, fostering a calm, positive classroom environment.

Mindful Movement Stations

Welcome students! Today we’ll explore how moving mindfully helps us feel calm and focused. Use a cheerful greeting and introduce our lesson name.

What Is Mindfulness?

Explain mindfulness in simple words. Ask: “What does paying attention mean?” Encourage a few answers.

Why Move Mindfully?

Describe benefits. Use an example: “When you notice you’re upset, taking a deep breath can help you feel better.”

Stations Overview

Quickly overview the three stations before dividing the class into groups. Point to each station area in the room.

Yoga Station

Guide students through each pose slowly. Model each one, then let them try. Mountain Pose – Stand tall with arms at sides. Tree Pose – Balance on one foot, hands together. Child’s Pose – Kneel and stretch arms forward on the floor.

Explain the video: “Watch how the bubble grows as we breathe in and shrinks as we breathe out.” After playing, lead the class together.

Mindful Walking Station

Demonstrate a slow, mindful walk around the room or along a taped path. Encourage students to feel each step.

Reflection Time

Hand out the reflection sheets. Read each question aloud and give students time to draw or write.

Great Job!

Congratulate students on their hard work. Remind them they can use these tools any time they need a moment of calm.
