Mirror Mirror: You Matter

Welcome everyone! Today we’re going to explore our strengths and learn how to turn negative thoughts into positive ones. This session lasts 30 minutes. Let’s make it fun and supportive.

Today's Objectives

Read the objectives aloud and emphasize that by the end of today, students will feel more confident and have tools to challenge negative self-talk.

Warm-Up: Compliment Circle

Explain the rules of the compliment circle. Model giving a specific compliment. Encourage eye contact and sincerity.

Activity 1: Strengths Collage

Introduce the collage materials and demonstrate how to cut out images or words. Encourage creativity and remind students this is about strengths, not perfection.

Activity 2: Negative Self-Talk Challenge

Hand out the worksheets and sticky notes. Show an example of turning “I can’t do this” into “I can try my best and learn.” Circulate to support as students work.

Group Discussion

Invite volunteers to share either their collage or their reframed affirmation. Use the prompt questions to guide reflection and celebrate all contributions.

Reflection & Cool-Down: Affirmation Board

Explain how to complete the affirmation cards and place them on the board. Read a few aloud to end on a positive group note.

Why Self-Esteem Matters

Connect today’s activities back to why self-esteem is important. Highlight real-life benefits for school and friendships.

Materials & Prep Reminder

Quickly run through the list of materials to ensure everything is accounted for. Remind students of the seating arrangement for sharing.

Closing & Next Steps

Invite the group to close by chanting the affirmation together. Encourage students to practice their new affirmations at home or school.
