Mood Masters: Emotional Regulation

Welcome the class and introduce the lesson. Explain that over the next 30 minutes, students will become Mood Masters by learning to recognize and regulate their emotions.

Today’s Objectives

Read each objective aloud and emphasize why these skills matter in everyday life.

The Emotion Wheel

Display the Emotion Wheel Poster at the front of the room. Hand out the Emotion Wheel Handout and invite students to follow along on their own sheet.

Identify Your Emotions

Give students 2–3 minutes to label and think of examples, then direct them into pairs. Circulate to support and prompt as needed.

Regulation Strategy 1: Deep Breathing

Introduce the deep-breathing technique. Lead the group through one full cycle together, counting out loud.

Regulation Strategy 2: Positive Self-Talk

Explain how words can shift our mindset. Provide a real-life example (e.g., “I can’t do this” → “I’ll give it my best shot”).

Applying Strategies

Distribute the Emotion Regulation Strategy Cards in small groups. Assign each group a scenario and let them role-play applying their card’s strategy.

Reflection

Hand out the Reflection Prompts Worksheet. Encourage honest responses and circulate to offer support.

Key Takeaways & Next Steps

Invite 2–3 volunteers to read their reflection aloud. Write 2–3 strategies on the board as a class reminder.

Thank You!

Wrap up with enthusiasm. Encourage students to lean on these tools whenever they need them.
