Lesson Plan

Morning Meeting Plan

Introduce 7th graders to the four components of a positive morning meeting—greeting, sharing, activity, and message—to build classroom community, strengthen communication skills, and set a positive tone for the day. Students will practice a structured greeting, share thoughts, engage in a brief group activity, and discuss a motivational message.

Establishing a consistent Morning Meeting routine fosters trust, empathy, and collaboration among students. It helps build social skills, gives every learner a voice, and promotes a supportive environment, equipping students with a positive mindset and readiness for academic tasks.

Slide Deck

Welcome to Morning Meeting

Welcome students as they arrive. Explain that Morning Meeting helps us connect and prepare for a great day. Encourage enthusiastic participation.

1. Greeting

Model a warm greeting first. Hold up sample Greeting Cards and demonstrate a high-five or handshake while making eye contact and smiling.

2. Sharing

Display the prompt and remind students to keep shares to about 30 seconds. Offer Feelings Chart Cards to anyone who needs them.

3. Group Activity – Word Association

Explain the word-association rules clearly. Start with yourself, then point to the next student quickly to maintain momentum. After the activity, ask reflection questions.

4. Morning Message

Read the morning message with energy. Pause to let students think about the reflection question. Call on 1–2 volunteers to share.

Let’s Have a Great Day!

Offer an upbeat send-off and preview the next subject. Point to any posted schedule or reminders on side chart paper.
