Number Ninjas: Counting & Calculating
Welcome students! Introduce yourself as the Number Ninjas sensei. Explain that today we’ll become counting and calculating masters. Briefly review the day’s agenda and spark excitement.
Read each objective aloud and ask students what it means. Reinforce that meeting these goals will make them confident math ninjas.
Show each material as you mention it. Remind students these tools will help them practice.
Introduction & Warm-Up (5 min)
Script:
“Let’s warm up our ninja counting skills. I’ll show a flashcard—shout out the number! Then we’ll count together to 20, and by tens to 100.”
Display the chart. Call out random numbers for students to find or say. Then move to the whiteboard: model 3 problems with counters (e.g., 7+5, 14−6, 8+9). Invite volunteers to the board.
Independent Practice (10 min)
Hand out the worksheet and counters. Encourage students to work quietly but ask for help if needed. Circulate, praise effort, and prompt thinking.
Closing & Assessment (5 min)
Explain the exit ticket: one addition, one subtraction within 20. Give students 2–3 minutes. Collect tickets to check understanding and plan next steps.
