Measure Matching Guide

Welcome to the Measure Matching Guide. Introduce this deck as a quick reference for the four key outcome measures students will encounter in the matching activity.

Outcome Measure Categories

Explain that outcome measures fall into three broad categories. Point out that matching scenarios to measures often begins by identifying which category the client’s primary concern fits.

Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)

Highlight that the BDI is used when clients report low mood, loss of interest, or changes in sleep/appetite. Emphasize self-report format and typical age range.

GAD-7 (Anxiety Scale)

Note that the GAD-7 is brief and focuses on worry, restlessness, and tension. Useful for clients who mention physical and mental signs of anxiety.

Strengths & Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)

Explain that the SDQ covers behavioral and emotional domains. It’s often used with children/adolescents to flag areas in need of support.

Outcome Rating Scale (ORS)

Describe the ORS as a global well-being check-in. It’s ideal for quickly monitoring overall progress across multiple life domains.

Tips for Matching Measures

Wrap up this guide by reinforcing strategies for selecting the best measure: match the client’s primary concern, consider age and format, and balance depth with practicality.
