Plant Detective Plan

Students will identify and label the five main parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves, flower, fruit) using AAC supports through interactive slides, hands-on matching, and a guided worksheet.

Be a Plant Detective!

Welcome the student and introduce today’s mission: “You are a Plant Detective! We will explore a plant and find its parts.” Point to the title and use the AAC device or [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart) to say “plant” and “detective.”

Meet the Plant

Show the whole plant image. Ask: “What is this?” Encourage the student to use their AAC device or point to the “plant” symbol on the [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart). Provide praise: “Great job saying ‘plant’!”

Roots

Display the roots image. Ask: “Where are the roots?” Guide the student to point to or select the roots symbol on the [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart) and say “roots.” Model pronunciation and reinforce: “Yes, those are the roots!”

Stem

Show the stem image. Prompt: “Can you find the stem?” Help the student locate the stem symbol on the [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart) and say “stem.” Provide feedback: “Fantastic! That’s the stem.”

Leaves

Reveal the leaves image. Ask: “What part are the green things?” Encourage the student to pick the leaves symbol on the [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart) and say “leaves.” Celebrate: “You found the leaves!”

Flower

Display the flower image. Ask: “What do you call this colorful part?” Guide the student to select the flower symbol on the [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart) and say “flower.” Praise: “Lovely! That is the flower.”

Fruit

Show the fruit image. Ask: “What does this plant make?” Help the student find and say the fruit symbol on the [AAC Symbol Plant Parts Chart](#aac-symbol-plant-parts-chart). Reinforce: “Yes! That’s the fruit.” End with: “Great detective work today!”
