Welcome everyone! Today we’re starting our lesson “Play Like a Pro.” Explain that we’ll learn how to make playtime more fun and inclusive by using respect, clear communication, and fair problem-solving. Transition to objectives.
Read each objective aloud and clarify any questions. Emphasize that by the end of today, students should be able to practice respect, communicate clearly, and resolve conflicts during play.
Ask: “What does Inclusive Play mean?” Record student ideas briefly on the board. Then introduce definitions: Respect, Communication, Conflict Resolution. Link them back to their ideas.
Positive vs. Negative Play Behaviors
Show examples and ask students to brainstorm more. Note positive behaviors (e.g., inviting others, listening) and negative ones (e.g., excluding, yelling). Highlight how positive play makes everyone feel welcome.
Scenario Role-Play Instructions
Explain the upcoming role-play activity. Emphasize group norms: respect each other, stay on task, and have fun practicing new skills.
Remind students to focus on the skills we discussed. Encourage them to pause role-plays if they need to check in with their group about a strategy.
After role-plays, guide students through reflection. Hand out the worksheets and read each prompt. Give them 5 minutes to write, then invite volunteers to share.
Summarize the top strategies shared by students. Highlight how these can make recess and group play more fun for everyone. Reinforce that practice helps build positive habits.
Thank students for their participation. Encourage them to try these approaches during recess and let you know how it goes.
