Pressure Proof: Stand Strong Against Peer Pressure

Welcome everyone! Introduce today’s lesson: “Pressure Proof.” Explain that we’ll learn what peer pressure is, why it matters, and practice strategies to stand strong. Mention this is a safe space to share and learn together.

Lesson Objectives

Read each objective aloud. Emphasize that by the end, students will be able to identify peer pressure, use refusal strategies, and support classmates.

Why Peer Pressure Matters

Discuss why peer pressure matters at this age: talk about real-life school examples, potential risks of going along with the group, and benefits of standing up for yourself.

What Is Peer Pressure?

Display a student-friendly definition. Invite students to rephrase it in their own words.

Examples vs. Non-Examples

Explain examples vs. non-examples. Ask volunteers to suggest scenarios and classify them together on the board.

Scenario Classification

Introduce the Scenario Classification activity. Demonstrate one card together, then have groups begin.

Refusal Strategies

List the four core refusal strategies. Encourage students to think of times they might use each.

Strategy Details

Explain each strategy in detail. Ask students to give examples of how they might use them in real life.

Your Turn: Strategy Brainstorm

Hand out the [Peer-Pressure-Strategy-Worksheet](#peer-pressure-strategy-worksheet). Model how to pair a scenario with a strategy.

Role-Play Practice

Explain role-play setup. Assign roles: influencer and responder. Remind students to use strategies they’ve brainstormed.

Role-Play Tips

Circulate and coach body language, tone, and clarity. Encourage positive feedback within groups.

Group Reflection

Bring the class back together. Use guiding questions to prompt reflection. Record key points on the board.

Action Plan

Explain the exit card activity. Distribute notecards and pens.

Share Your Pledge

Invite 3–4 volunteers to read their pledges aloud. Celebrate each pledge and thank students for their courage.

Reminder: Stand Strong

Collect and display notecards in the classroom as a visual reminder. Wrap up by reinforcing the importance of supporting one another.
