Quit & Thrive: Vaping Facts

Introduce the series and today’s focus. Explain that this slide deck will cover key definitions, prevalence data, and health risks of vaping. Encourage students to jot down questions for discussion at the end.

Agenda

Walk through today’s agenda so students know what to expect. Emphasize timing: about 15 minutes for this section, then discussion.

What Is Vaping?

Define vaping clearly. Contrast with traditional smoking. Ask: “Has anyone seen or used an e-cigarette?”

Common Vape Devices

Show images or real devices if available. Point out brand examples. Ask students if they recognize any.

Vaping Among Teens

Share reputable survey data (e.g., CDC, NYTS). Stress that numbers may change yearly but trends show rising use.

Why Do Teens Vape?

Lead a quick brainstorm: What drives teens to vape? Capture answers on board.

Health Risks: Short-Term

Highlight immediate effects. Ask: “Has anyone experienced any of these symptoms?”

Health Risks: Long-Term

Explain that research on long-term effects is still emerging but risks are serious. Relate to brain and lung health.

Discussion & Questions

Open the floor for questions. Encourage students to share what surprised them and note topics they want to explore further in later sessions.
