Peaceful Paths: Conflict Resolution Skills

Welcome students! Introduce today’s lesson on Peaceful Paths and explain that we’ll learn four steps to solve conflicts respectfully. Emphasize this is a safe space to practice communication.

Learning Objectives

Read each objective aloud. Ask students if the objectives make sense and invite any quick clarifying questions.

Why Learn Conflict Resolution?

Explain why conflict resolution matters. Invite a brief volunteer response about how solving disagreements peacefully helps everyone.

Four Key Steps

Give an overview of the four steps. Point to the poster or slide and briefly describe each before diving deeper.

Step 1: Identify the Conflict

Define a conflict. Ask students: “What questions can help us understand the conflict?” Record answers on the board.

Step 2: Use “I” Statements

Display the I-Statements poster. Model filling in the blanks, then ask a volunteer to try an “I” statement about a classroom scenario.

Step 3: Active Listening

Show the active listening checklist. Demonstrate attending behaviors (eye contact, nodding) and ask students to practice with a partner.

Step 4: Find Win-Win Solutions

Explain that win-win solutions respect both people’s needs. Brainstorm simple examples with the class before moving on.

Example Scenario: Sharing a Book

Model a scenario with a volunteer. Read through each step slowly and highlight how each skill is used.

Your Turn: Role-Play & Reflect

Explain the role-play procedure and reflection. Remind students to use their worksheets and exit tickets for assessment.
