Respect Rocks

Welcome, everyone! Today we’ll launch our 30-minute Respect Rocks lesson. Introduce yourself, explain that respect is our focus, and set a positive tone.

Lesson Objectives

Read each objective aloud. Emphasize that by the end of class, students will be able to define respect, see why it’s important, and make personal commitments.

Warm-Up: What is Respect?

Ask students to think quietly for a few seconds before sharing. Record each word they offer around a big header on chart paper reading “Respect Means….” Point out patterns as you go.

Activity 1: Scenario Discussion

Divide the class into small groups of 3–4. Distribute 2–3 [Respect Scenario Cards](#respect-scenario-cards) per group. Circulate to support discussion and keep groups on task.

Activity 2: Role-Play

Invite volunteers or assign pairs to role-play. Have one student act out the unkind version, then switch to a respectful version. Guide feedback: “What made the second version respectful?”

Closure: Reflect & Commit

Hand out the [Respect Reflection Journal Template](#respect-reflection-journal). Give students 2–3 minutes to write. Invite volunteers to read aloud. Reinforce the importance of keeping commitments.

Respect Classroom Rules

Display the poster for ongoing reference. Review each rule briefly, then encourage students to refer to it throughout the week.

Thank You!

Thank students for their participation and energy. Remind them that respect is a habit we practice every day.
