Welcome everyone! Today we're going to learn about our five senses and how what we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell can tell us about our feelings. Get your listening ears ready!
Read the objectives aloud and explain that sensing and emotions go hand-in-hand. Encourage students to think of their own examples.
Show pictures or real objects for each sense (e.g., apple for taste, bell for hearing). Ask children to call out the sense.
Project or display the large [Sensory Preference Chart](#sensory-preference-chart). Invite volunteers to share favorites for each sense and record on the chart.
Demonstrate matching one emotion card to a sense column. Model the thought process: “This smell makes me happy, so I’ll put the happy card under smell.”
Hand out individual charts and cards. Circulate to support partnerships. Encourage discussion: “Why did you choose that emotion for that sense?”
Bring the class back together. Ask 2–3 pairs to share one match and explain. Reinforce that different feelings come from different senses for everyone.
Thank students for their participation. Collect charts and cards. Remind them to notice their feelings using their senses throughout the day.
