Get Your Parents On Board

Welcome students! Today we’ll explore why regular attendance matters and learn how to craft persuasive messages to encourage your parents to support coming to school every day. Encourage engagement and note any personal connections.

Why Attendance Matters

Present these key reasons. Ask students to share if they’ve ever missed something important because they were absent. Highlight the connection to their own goals.

Attendance Impact Facts

Distribute the handout now. Give students a minute to skim the facts. Emphasize how you can use these statistics in your messages.

Persuasive Techniques

Display or project the Poster. Walk through each technique with a quick example: ethos = your credibility (‘I’m dedicated…’), logos = facts, pathos = emotion.

Draft Your Message

Hand out the template. Model a sample: “Mom, I’ve noticed missing school makes me fall behind (logos). I’m committed to my grades (ethos) because I want to join the soccer team next year (pathos). Can we plan for me to wake up on time every day?”

Share & Improve

Explain peer feedback process: remind students to be kind and specific. After revising, encourage them to share at home and set attendance goals with parents.
